Paddle Diva loves to celebrate women’s accomplishments, highlighting inspirational women who motivate and encourage others to lead healthier lives. For August I’m featuring Erika Bloom, who continues to help women feel more confident through Pilates, holistic fitness and wellness.

Erika is the mother of two and founder of Erika Bloom Pilates Plus. I’m continually impressed by her ability to run a business and manage family life so competently! She has managed to expand her brand into international arenas, while continuing to maintain great leadership among her staff. Along with being a strong leader and businessperson, Erika is an all-around athlete and keeps up with interests such as stand up paddleboarding, road cycling and mountain biking.

The first Erika Bloom Pilates Plus location opened over 10 years ago on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Since then, Erika has grown her business with locations in the Hamptons, Greenwich, Connecticut, and most recently to the tropical island paradise of Turks and Caicos.  Last fall, Erika opened the beautiful 375-square-foot Pilates studio at the Amanyana resort. Set on secluded white-sand beaches filled with delicate oceans breezes and turquoise waters, it’s a superb locale that melds serenity, mediation, fitness and relaxation. Tranquil ponds, a spa boutique, treatment pavilions and a wellness facility surround the Pilates studio. 

Erika Bloom Pilates

Erika has been studying Pilates for 20 years. A former professional dancer, she performed internationally with various ballet and modern dance companies. Erika later integrated her dance and body movement experience with Pilates.

Pilates is a system of low impact body conditioning exercises, aimed at strengthening core muscles while lengthening them. Repetitions are completed in sequences with an emphasis on form and alignment. Through the movements and integrated breathing you begin to create a connection between your mind and body.  The many benefits of Pilates include supporting a healthy posture and reducing chronic back pain. It can also help ease body tightness from sitting too long in front of a computer.

Erika Bloom continues to expand and reinvent the Pilates spectrum. She is known for personalized Pilate’s workouts, offering her clients customized routines built around their strength, goals, anatomy and bio-mechanics. Erika’s custom programs have attracted celebrity clients such as actresses Olivia Wilde and Kerry Washington and several NFL players.
